Event : Pipit

It was a busy day. My 4th Pipit day last Saturday held at Annexe Gallery, Central Market. My sister and I rented a space and opened a small booth. I sold stickers and my sister sold phone straps and keychains. 

I've been busy for the past month to be ready for the day. I've been heavily sick and I am still recovering from my sickness. My MBP died on the night I needed to do last minute prints but I stick to plan B- which was bring anything I already have. I kept my cool and tried to forget the meaning of stress & panic. I put aside my worry thoughts, I said to myself "Let's just do the best of tomorrow and we'll think about problems afterwards".

It was a productive day and I had fun.

I met so many people, for that, I thank all of YOU, for your supports. It was over-whelming. I can't thank you enough. My final event for this year is wrapped with good memories. 

I met Pupurin , Oh & Ah's , Evangelione's Handmade , Mike the Pipiteer , Namizam , to name a few. I also met several silent readers from here. It was such a nice moments. I remember meeting this nice little girl, called Mahfuzah - she was so sweet, I feel like hugging her ! I met merahitujambu, a blogger - of course I know you ! Also Qiqien , you've been buying my things, so I remember you too - thanks for the support. I'll check the artwork I promised to send later :) And plus Adora and maybe all other people who stopped by and greeted me, I forgot your names but it was so nice of you to come and talked to me ! T^T I feel loved and appreciated. And my colleagues and friends and my brother ! Can I even thank you enough?

I slept that night with a smile plastered on my face.

Event : Final Pipit

I just found out yesterday that it would be our last Pipit Event : Pipit Creative Market 9 :

Pipit Wonderful Market a creative festival for handmade craft, independent artist, designer and other related creatives talent that are interested to expose and trade their creations or items. 

Date : 10 Nov 2012 , Saturday 

Venue : Annexe Gallery , Central Market , KL 

Time : 12pm ~ 7pm 

FREE ADMISSION 

They have decided to make this as the final event and promised to come out with something much interesting and unique in the future. For that, I guess I'll just hope for the best ! It's been a great experience, so this would be my 4th and last booth at Pipit T^T

Stickers : Cakes

I've been sleeping so early since last week. I guess my body is reacting to the medicine and *hopefully working their ass-es off to fight sickness. Last night I slept for almost 10 hours ! I think I can now even compete in sleeping contest with my cat, Awan.

Anyhow, there is a new doodle sticker collection : Cakes.

I took a day to collect ideas and doodle it on paper. I took 2 more days to digitalize it using Photoshop and my old graphic tablet. After several test print, I sent it to Serdang to be printed and I took days to cut them one by one and package it. 

For the next Pipit event, I'll bring all my sticker sets along.

Update : Cold & Sticker

It's my 5th day with light fever, sore throat and heavy cold. I didn't actually thought I'll be sick this long, so after 4 days of trying to fight with sickness at the lab, yesterday I gave up. I went to meet a doctor for a check-up, and he gave me one day off and a lot of medicines. I hate doctors.

Anyhow, at home, I watched 'How I Met your Mom' series, cut out and packaged all my printed stickers. There were hundreds of them. Yeap, maybe I overworked a bit. But I divided my time accordingly, with 6 hours sleep time everyday - I don't know what I did wrong. I don't actually feel tired, I just feel unwell. 

Next Pipit event is held next Saturday.

Inspiration : May Ann Licudine

*

So, the legendary May Ann Licudine produced another 101 original ACEO cards last month. She made a double of her last year's 50 original ACEO cards, which was such an inspiration. The original idea was to make affordable original pieces, and yes I want it so bad - because I can't afford her other remarkable beautiful drawings. So when she put a notice about it several days before they are available on her online shop, I was so excited! 

I counted the day. On that day, my boss asked me to follow him for work-related event. 

I was 1/2 hour late. I got onlined right away using my phone, and looked through what was left of those 101 cards. Only around 9 pieces left ! In 1/2 hour ! Impressive.

I chose one, and paid for it right away.  Even though I didn't get what I really aimed for - which were so many, I feel so happy nonetheless. Less than a week later, I checked my mail box and there there ! :

Writing : 750words

750words is a website I used to practise my writing skill. Basically the idea is to write 3 pages long post on anything that pops into your head every morning. The unfiltered, spontaneous, daily private post on anything. It is to make writing be a daily habit. 

The idea is if you start your day with 3 long pages , it can help you clear your mind and keep the ideas flow all day long. Like morning exercise to keep you stay fresh the whole day, same concept.

It is not blogging. It is just a free style writing on anything. No particular rules. And it is private, only for you, by you.

3 pages = 750 words. 

I've tried it, and it was not as easy as I thought it would be. It needs a bit effort to keep on ideas flowing. Somehow I need to connect with my subconscious thoughts and it was always interesting to read later afterwards. More like a journal I guess, easy to say.

Little Things 44 : Small Talks

Most introverts hate small talks. 

It is one thing that most of us fail to understand. 

I asked my siblings all the time :

Why would someone want to ask about something personal in short meetings?

What I am currently doing? 

When will I get married? Have children ?

How is my family? 

Where I am working at? 

How much is my salary?

All those small talks people usually do when they meet in short time : weddings, bump into one another at supermarket , while waiting bus , etc.

Some say it is a way to avoid being rude for not asking or trying to care. For my opinion, small talks are a bit rude, you know when people ask something personal because it looks nice and it is what everyone does, and silence or not asking anything seems rude. It is much better to just shake hands, smile and ask 'how are you' , in meeting old-old-old friends, people that you use to know in a class you took several years ago, and such than trying to seems like you care. 

Social Interaction for introverts :

They dislike small talk and would rather say nothing than something they feel is insignificant. Although introverts are quiet, they will talk incessantly if they’re interested in the topic. They also dislike being interrupted when they talk, or when they’re working on some project. - Carol Bainbridge

It is something that I found a bit relieving when I feel much much much comfortable for not having to ask anything and trying to keep up in a short conversation. This explains why my mom said my aunts are scared to talk to me because I look uninviting and even several other mums said that too. I know how my aura of "don't-try-to-small-talk-with-me" because I usually see it from people's reaction after I give that aura. Ha. In a way, it is much better if you talk - I just listen, and I'll talk when I feel like talking. 

Waiting for me to ask anything will take probably take so much processing in my mind that it left me exhausted afterwards. I am serious.

Muji

If you love bright, modern, simple concept, say hello to Muji. It is a no-brand brand from Japan. Easily said, imagine IKEA for Swedish, Muji for Japanese, I guess Mydin is for Malaysian. Ha. It sells everything from small things like crafts & stationaries, to big things like furnitures and houses. 

I first found out about Muji from their Muji House while I was feeding my curiosity on small-concept architecture. I guess I fell in love with their brand. 

The first Muji was opened on 1983 in Japan, much older than I am !

There is one Muji in Pavilion, and yeay to another brand new Muji opening soon in Mid Valley this December. There won't be that huge pet store I used to go to anymore, Muji took over those 2 levels shop :D

Book : Yasmin How You Know ?

I borrowed this book from my colleague and finished reading it while on my way back from work months ago. It was mostly short paragraph each and it didn't take so much time to finish. I bought a donut, sat at an empty table faced a lake at TBS, and read it as much as I can. 

Yasmin How You Know ? is published by Leo-Burnett Malaysia. It is a compilation of Pesan-pesan and stories from Yasmin Ahmad or around Yasmin, shared by her family members, her close friends, people who worked with her, and anyone else around her. 

I read the book twice to refresh pages that I loved, before returning it back to the owner.

Yasmin on talent to Orked Ahmad ( Yasmin's sister ) :
"God gives everyone the same amount of talent. It's just up to you to korek (dig)."


Yasmin on choosing her causes :
It was just before the 1st Gulf War. I asked Yasmin if she was joining in the anti-war campaign. And her reply, "Anti-war rally? No thank you. But please do let me know if there's a pro-peace effort being organised."

Then she gently explained that focusing on the negative only gives it energy. Trying to prevent wrongs or seeking ways to punish people who have done wrong actually creates more problems.

Instead, she said, focus on the positive. Pour all your energy into doing good.


Yasmin on the Meaning of True Love to Eugune Yong ( a friend & colleague ) :

Me : What is love ?
Yasmin : It's the long we have to know God.
Me : How do you know we found true love ?
Yasmin : The same way we know when our house is on fire. We just know.

It's a book I recommend people to read. Go to any major bookstore and buy it. Enjoy it, because there were some pages that make me laughed while at the train station alone. There were some paragraphs that gave me a short pause to think. 

I wouldn't mind having it for my collection, someday. 

PS : What I ask is to try to pause your mind on all the negative speculations existed around her, read this book, enjoy, cherish, think and take all the good things. She is one of great people that existed in this world that deserves to be treated with respect.
