Book : Memento Bento by Alessandra Criseo

I followed Mais on Instagram and on Behance. 

I loooooove her clean-simple-stroke. 

So when I saw that she has started selling Memento Bento, I bought it right away. It is her Tokyo - Kyoto travelogue *coincidence? mihmihmih. I also bought Tokyo on Foot by Florent Chavouet several years back but never did any review on that :p I also have Craig Thompson's visual travelogue.

Price - I didn't notice it was £15(RM82) instead of $15usd, so with additional of postage fees £4.50 (RM25), the total was £19.50 (RM107). It was over my budget for such a tiny travelogue, usually I put a budget of around RM60+ for this smaller type of visual books. But because I bought it on paypal and converting isn't automatically done, I just assumed. I assumed it was in USD, my mistake. Anyhow, past is past, I received the book last week. 

I kept telling my family about it "did the expensive book arrived"?, "I bought a really expensive travelogue". Hah. Padan muka.

She drew things like : clothes to wear, places she went to, interesting things that they found, food and people with tiny cute stickers and images. I wish there were more doodles and stories, the book consists with 60 pages of doodles and all. I want moooore.

Anyhow, it's a wonderful book. 

I'm glad it's in my travelogue collection now.

Book : Blanket

When I received duit raya from the boss for last Eid, I secretly went to the Borders by myself to buy a graphic novel + visual biography by Craig Thompson , Blanket. I aimed for this book after I saw it a few weeks earlier and googled pages from the book. Ps : I bought the last copy :D

I've been searching for graphic novel about life, mainly on personal thoughts and opinions. Blanket looked like a hole that let me peek inside Craig's past and thoughts. What made him produce Habibi? That was the real question. I heard some good and bad reviews on Habibi from my colleagues and Goodreads. On rough statement, Habibi consists of beautiful intricate illustrations, and Arabic calligraphies. It is NOT suitable for kids and immature adult, in a way, I am sure it touches a lot about sensitive issues ; religions, races, beliefs, history, slavery, nudity, sex etc. 

So I am pretty curious on what makes him did all those interesting research - because Habibi shows that he did his research. I don't really recommend this type of reading, except if you are purely interested in such heavy topics and open-minded. 

Anyhow, in Blanket, it is mostly on his childhood and love stories. I love this book.
PS : Be warned that there's nudity in this book. Not suitable for under-age.

Hello !

I woke up early today because I was awaken by countless mosquito bites. I thought I'd be feeling groggy, but luckily I felt alive! I literally sang-aloud Karyn White's Superwoman and Keranamu Cinta by V.E & Quadrose, my all time random favorites. 

Before I went to to the bus stop, I went to check the letter box. Silently hoping for Raya cards, but alas! Luckily, I saw a medium sized heavy envelope when I peeked in. Yeay, my package has arrived! The travelogue I ordered from bookdepository! It merely took 15 days, with free shipping and all, I'm satisfied! Read here for my previous order review.

French Milk by Lucy Knisley. I've been searching for this travelogue at major bookstores, but I never found it so I decided to order from bookdepository. Books posted in my letterbox on random days, I feel like Santa leaving presents on Christmas for me!

I am enjoying it by far. *I read it on my way to work this morning, now on page 124. It is a travelogue of her experience while staying in Paris for 6 weeks with her mom. It reminds me of my original idea, to explore Paris with my mom and write/draw a travelogue while on that 1 month stay, but alas! Airasia cancelled our flight that was supposedly due last July.

Anyhow, those random chit-chats, little trinkets of interesting things and foods, the culture and environment, the appartement, random french words that I recognized, makes me all excited. I need to do this project someday, someday soon!
