Events : Etsy Made Local & Battery Acid Club

November 22, 2016

Etsy Made Local :
This event was also a random tryouts for me. I applied and I got a place to open a booth on the Sunday from the 2 days event. I was really excited because I really like Etsy, and I was hoping that the Etsy community will be supportive and like-minded.

I was right! The crowd was the best, this is one of my favorite event so far.

I sold so many sticker packs and postcards, some greeting cards and bags. People didn’t stop coming, even though by 3pm the weather changed from a hot sweaty afternoon to a heavy thunderstorm. But the thing was, even though it rained heavily people still keep on coming and buying things :D

*

The organizer & location :
I also like the big orange banner and the Etsy's free stickers and the posters and the little cafe : Battery Acid Club that uses a lot of my own Pinterest-inspired stuffs that I pinned! Especially the part with small-sized tiles for the kitchen top and their beautiful white and black toilet. A very well-designed place. So inspiring *taken from the IG :

The map :

I took 3 of Etsy stickers from the organizer, because I really want to stick them in my journal - even though they said one person can only take one, ha ! I also received my Etsy namecard and a sticker saying "Ask me About my Etsy Shop". Isn't this amazing? All customized items for all vendors - never had this much fun and appreciation at any events.

Love the detailing. Love the chatty friendly organizers.

Things I put in my journal :

*

The vendors :
I bought some stuffs from other illustrator called "Sukka Project". I really like her own unique stroke so I bought a hand-made small pouch bag - I kinda want the postcard as well, but it was hand-made and was quite pricy for me :( All the items were silk-screened onto fabric and paper, some of the items were paper-marched into a unique characters. They told me that they are joining Rantai 2016 as well, and I asked them to produce more art prints. Ha :D

*

I also met Diawangan for the first time. She is one of my client - I designed her company's logo. I personally quite like the cute logo of the cloud and smiley face. Kak Zila brought her son and husband along. I greeted her and stopped by at her booth, but I didn't buy any items from her : she sells handmade nursery items :)

*

Near to my booth was Eleanor,'s workshop, a designer and a calligraphy artist. There were a bunch of people learning calligraphy all through the day, I wanted to greet and talk to her but she seemed a bit busy teaching. This is her takes on the event day.

Other vendors :

I think I should try to make friendly greets to everyone after this, ask around, get to know people, perhaps interview some of the vendors to write about them. For that, I need a lot of caffeine in the morning and a mental set that the day will be extra exhausting but worth it. I should also prepare for a set of questions. Hm.

*

Outcome :
Sales : RM 623
- Booth rent : RM 80
- Lunches & Dinner : RM 100 (Dinner at Rimba&Rusa, coffee at Battery Acid Club, KFC for fast lunch)
- Gas & Tolls : RM 40+
The best sales so far in the past almost 30 booths at various events.

Work Related : Remaining 2016 with events & activities

October 30, 2016

Reasoning always pushes me into sudden splurging on things; because when I have money - I want to travel, and when I can't travel I want to buy things - just because. Hm. But then, I'm trying to fill my schedule with events and activities that I can do, in hope of making my inner-self understand that sometimes I need to be the adult and be reasonable. Oh well.

This November I'll be joining an event :
  • 26th event - JUNKed Makers Market at Prototype Gallery, Wisma Central, Jln Ampang. Near KLCC, in front of now demolished : the Red Bungalow. It's the place where people in the city go to print stuffs. It was the place I went for random lunch when I worked part time between Matic KL and Menara Atlan, or the place we sometimes send things to be urgently printed *even though they were all expensive, my God. Not quite sure the crowd, but rental is super affordable to sell my little stickers for the day.

Here a map :

*
  • 27th event : Etsy Made Local at Battery Acid Club,  Petaling Jaya. It is a 2-days event, but my booth is scheduled for that Sunday (13/11) : more calming day. I've been wanting to join the Etsy Malaysia group - so I'll have more exposure, more chances to go to places because sometimes it is way easier to plan in a group than going to big events alone. But I'm too introverted to believe that I may need other people in my life. But trying matters. I hope I won't be the thorn among the roses and feel out of place.

Here's the map :

*

I'll be fighting with a lot of little demons to open a booth and be among the society, just so I can share stuffs that I made with people whom might probably like it . Hope I can see you guys soon? Or you can always opt for more indirect and expensive way : which is via my Etsy, of course :)
  • Also Putrajaya Night Marathon : where I will be trying my first 21km running + walking + zombie-like-dragging-my-feet.
*

While in this December I'll be joining this :
  • School Holiday : Doodle day class at UPM *still not confirmed*
  • 28th event : Rantai Art Festival 2016 at IM4U Sentral, Puchong. Two of my previous events with Rantai were a total failure *I didn't even write a post about it because it was so bad*, I think I'm giving this one another shot to see whether they can reborn again or not. Compared to all other events that I'm joining in this 2 months, Rantai is the most expensive. Way expensive, I don't see how the event will help independent market with high rental if there's no crowd at all. But then again, we'll see :)

Book : Big Bad Wolf Dec 2015

December 17, 2015

Last week on Tuesday we stopped by at Big Bad Wolf after work :D
There were a lot of plans throughout the whole week - and we didn't even have time to run or workout, but we managed to spend around 1 hour at BBW, Mines Convention Center :

*

Compared to the previous years, I think I found more familiar books than I expected. There were Nick Hornby, Jodi Picoult, Neil Gaiman, Orhan Pamuk, Stephen King, Salman Rushdie, Stieg Larsson, Audrey Niffeneggar, Kim Edwards, Khaled Hosseini and so many more. Even though I read almost all of those books, I'm still glad because at least many people can have the chance to buy those affordable books this time :D

For me, I managed to buy :
  • Chronicle of Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, RM 8
  • Of Love and Other Demons by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, RM 8
  • Fragile Things by Neil Gaiman, RM 8
  • The Architect's Apprentice by Elif Shafak, RM 8
  • The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd, RM 8
  • The Little Prince by Antoine Exupery - the special edition with CD read by Viggo Mortensen!, RM 12

I also bought several children books for Af's niece and little siblings ( 2 sticker books + 1 bookset with a panda + squeaky bath book ). They were all so cheap T^T

I spent around RM 100 for all those books.
Worth the money spent !

I spent the night later to plastic-wrapped all the books and reorganize my bookshelves. It's not quite ready for new books but I managed to find some extra space to put them in for now :( I can't wait for a new huge book case for my expanding book family.

*

On the final day of the BBW event on Monday, we went there for the 2nd time :D I promised Af that it would be a quick-scan-thing, but I think we spent almost an hour, again :

This time, I found :
  • Daily Rituals by Mason Currey, RM 10
  • Silent House by Orhan Pamuk, RM 10
  • Stieg & Me by Eva Gabrielson, RM 8
  • In a Strange Room by Damon Galgut, RM 8

I spent  almost RM 40 this time.
*

I was so happy when I found this book. I've been wanting this since it came out but I didn't buy it because it was too pricy *even if I buy it online. But I bought this for only RM 10 at BBW ! I started reading this blog that compiles all the daily habits of awesome people in the world - architects, musicians, filmmaker, writers, philosophers, etc. But the guy stopped writing and published the book instead :(

*

If you are into the Millennium trilogy aka "The Girl in the Dragon Tattoo", about the sudden death of Stieg Larsson after he sent his manuscript to be published and never knew how popular it will be, about his 32 years life partner - Eva and how she got nothing out of it because they weren't married, and all the book's rights were given to his not-even-close father and step brother - that they later paid other writer to co-write the 4th book that just came out several months back *whathehell..

Then this is your type of book, because it tells the story from Eva's side.

My current read :

I can't thank you BBW enough for all the awesome books for this event.

*

Oh, I also got 2 RM 10 vouchers for Unity ASEAN Lantern & Music Show in Mines. I can't wait ! The event started on the 11th Dec 2015 until 22nd Feb 2016, 7.30 - 12pm and it opens on public holidays, Fridays and weekends :D

Event : Running Events 2014 *final update*

December 21, 2014

*

NOTE :
By far, this is one post with overload pictures of me -
I'm sorry for this narcissistic post,
this is for my personal yearly running record and yes,
I record things on my blog :F

*

1. Run for Life, UPM - 8th March 2014, 8 km

Great morning view, first run after 3 months hiatus, overload students :D
It was rather a normal running activity. I guess after so many events, I am getting used with the hectic excitement. But to keep my list packed, I am still joining 6 crowd-running-events per year. Registered 5 of them throughout the whole year.

*

2. Milo Breakfast Run 2014 - 20th April 2014, 7 km

I entered my second run this year at Milo Breakfast Run 2014 (*my 9th run in total) .
7 km run with more than 10,000 registered runners - not including ghost-runners ie; my brother and my friend =.='. All tickets were sold out after several days of online registration activation. I excitedly invited all my siblings last month and tagged all my friends on Facebook - but they procrastinated and missed the chance. Oh well.

Inspired by H.Murukami, I started the run with slow-consistent pace. I didn't stop for 30 minutes, around 4 km by that time. Normally my pace would be slow-fast-walk-slow-fast-walk, the variety worked for me. Maintaining a consistent pace is something new for me and I took 4 km non-stop run as a new achievement. Wihu!

Too bad after around 5km, I tried to follow my brother's faster pace and almost fainted. The remaining route was much slower afterwards. I think it's because of the blood donation I did 2 days before. I was a bit tired and even felt light-headed yesterday, *a normal symptoms for someone who just donated blood :F I didn't thought it will affect me that much.

*

3. NM Galaxy Roadrun Bukit Jalil - 10th August 2014, 10 km

This time I went for my 10th run, alone. I took around 1 hour 30+ mins to complete the run, blaming my almost 2 months rest from any outdoor activities on Ramadhan and Syawal :D I asked a random runner at the event to take my picture before I went back home by train and bus. The bad stinking smell wasn't entirely my fault.

PS : Soon afterwards, I've been gaining weight back, thanks to the run.

*

4. Mizuno Wave Run, Putrajaya - 24th August 2014, 10 km

This was my last run with my brother this year before he continued his semester in Germany =.= Nothing special much about this run other than secretly went to the event with my old school friend and his brother and met Mr. Loh again - *but he didn't joined this time.

*

5. MAKNA Founder's Malaysia Run, 1st Nov, 10km

I've never joined night run and this was my first. The starting point's location was at the Water Sport Complex Putrajaya near Pullman. I remember people were sitting everywhere near the man-made lake & a small beach like hundreds of pink flamingo. A nice sunset + heavy dark cloud view from a tower that we can climb up to. I was having one of my minor headache so everything was a bit uncomfortable and less enjoyable.

I remember running in dark and silence except for the sounds of running-footsteps and soft huffs. This was one of my favorite run. A combination of night-time and Putrajaya : win.

*

6. Cyberjaya Twincity Marathon, 21st Dec, 12km

Other than weekly yoga, I have't been training for months. If it's not because of the early-bird registration, maybe I wouldn't even go to Cyberjaya for the run. I arrived and started late because it took almost an hour to arrive there from my new home. I walked most of the run, and finished after 1 hour 40 minutes - the slowest so far :p

But.
It's my first 12km run, not my proudest achievement,
but still enough for my personal yearly record

*

And also, I managed to complete my 2014 goal to run 150 km :

*

Exhibition : Seni Asli, Matic KL

August 28, 2013

I went here unplanned and found a great exhibition currently held : Seni Asli - An Orang Asli Contemporary Art Exhibition and Sales, at MaTiC Kuala Lumpur.

There were a lot of beautiful wood-carved sculpture and masks, several art sketches, a lot of photographs and the Mah Meri's crafts. Nothing as I imagined Orang Asli's product would be, because the design was a bit modernized and influenced by several other subjects : gargoyles, Chinese dragons, etc. I personally love the combination.

Too bad there weren't any visitors much. Except for me and another two foreigners that only spent 3 minutes in the gallery.

Sumpit

These wooden sculptures were made by the Meh Meri people to house the spirit :

Moyang Pacat

Moyang Puting Beliong
